High & Low Engineering is a civil engineering and surveying practice in West Texas. As the firm looked toward more design-led architectural work, the identity needed to communicate a greater degree of cultural fluency without distancing the commercial and civic clients already familiar with its technical expertise.
The name became the foundation for the system. High and Low was treated as a working dialectic: ideal and material, imagined and constrained, phenomena and science. The identity moves between those conditions, reflecting a practice that translates the realities of a site into the possibilities of design.
A modular HL mark was constructed from a limited set of rectilinear bricks, building a passage. Aktiv Grotesk extends that precision through typography, while black-and-white ambient imagery is interrupted by a pale pink accent in the form of a brick. A bird-and-worm seal extends the high/low relationship into a secondary mark.
Imagery focuses on land, infrastructure, construction, and process across changing points of view, from satellite-like aerial perspectives to ground-level observations. Rather than treating content as marketing collateral alone, the visual system positions drawings, surveys, site photography, and documentation as expressions of the work itself.
Together, the identity reframes technical authority as technical and cultural authority: precise and grounded, but capable of speaking the language of architects and design-led collaborators.
